Crews encounter wet weather during 1st run on Lincoln
Paving started Wednesday evening on the U.S. Highway 40 construction project, and officials said crews didn’t finish as much as they planned to and would need to remove one 20-foot section of concrete. Scott Contracting said “paving went reasonably well,” according to Jody Patten, the company’s project information manager.

Hayden to host track event
7-team meet to be held in Craig today
The term “home meet” is relative, of course. It always is for mountain-area high school track teams without their own paved tracks. Still, Hayden High School coach Barbara Manzanares said today’s home meet, set to start at noon at Moffat County High School in Craig, will feel just a little different.
Skate Deck Art Show is back
Urbane hosts event as part of First Friday Artwalk
With a new emphasis on skate gear and an itch to get artists to show their work, Urbane is hosting the second Annual Skate Deck Art Show. The show takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. May 7 as part of the First Friday Artwalk. There will be refreshments and live music.

Steamboat Briefs: County Road 80 will be closed for about 3 months
The Routt County Road and Bridge Department has closed Routt County Road 80, California Park Road, from the gate at the south Forest Service boundary to the gate at the north Forest Service boundary, according to a news release.

South Routt School Board approves nonlicensed staff contracts
The South Routt School Board approved contracts for all existing nonlicensed staff members Thursday night with the exception of one. Thursday’s action continued the School Board’s work to address a projected budget shortfall of $472,000 for the 2010-11 school year. To do that, district officials have indicated they will have to cut $155,000 in personnel costs.

Sen. White: Energy bill could cost up to 200 coal jobs in Routt
Senator says law intended to cut emissions could affect Twentymile
State Sen. Al White said this week that a new law intended to reduce emissions and convert some Front Range coal plants to natural gas could result in as many as 200 lost jobs at Routt County’s Twentymile coal mine. Gov. Bill Ritter signed the Colorado Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act into law Monday.
