Steamboat ski season ends with events
Closing Day includes Pond Skimming competition, costumes
It wouldn’t be Closing Day at Steamboat Ski Area without the goofy getups. Skiers and snowboarders were decked out in all sorts of costumes Sunday. The guy wearing an orange tuxedo and top hat was hard to miss. So were the people in banana suits. There were little girls wearing tutus, men dressed as cowboys and women wearing bikini tops with their ski pants.

Village Inn in Steamboat closing this week
Restaurant’s last day is Wednesday; manager cites economy
General manager Shauna Bokn confirmed this morning that Wednesday will be the last day in business for Steamboat’s Village Inn. She said the economic recession has proved too challenging for the restaurant, which specializes in breakfast and pies and also serves lunch and dinner. Bokn said the Village Inn has been in Steamboat Springs for about 14 years.

There are many unanswered questions about Parkinson’s disease. Some, such as what causes the condition in the first place, are troubling. Others, such as why exercise improves lives of people coping with the disease, are more optimistic.
Wrestling season wraps up
The Steamboat wrestling program celebrated its season last week, awarding athletes at the high school and middle school levels. At the middle school level, Connor O’Brien was named the most improved. Ben Holden had the fastest pin at 8 seconds.

A 71-year-old Boulder man was rescued Sunday evening from near the Morningside lift at Steamboat Ski Area.
Steamboat 700 campaign totals about $140,000
Developers outspent Let’s Vote by more than $120,000
Steamboat 700 developers spent a total of nearly $140,000 on their campaign for the proposed Steamboat 700 annexation that city voters strongly denied in last month’s election. The Good For Steamboat and Let’s Vote committees submitted their final campaign finance reports late last week to Steamboat Springs City Clerk Julie Franklin.
Singers, school chorus raising voices for Wednesday concert
Members of the Yampa Valley Singers, Steamboat Chamber Singers and the Steamboat Springs High School chorus will join vocal forces in a performance of Schubert’s Mass in G on Wednesday. The concert features each group on individual pieces.

These smiling, skilled and confident women are neonatal nurse practitioners at YVMC. And they are a key reason that our community hospital delivers babies who arrive prematurely or are at risk of developing health issues.
Deb Babcock: Planting from seed — a good idea?
With our short, 59-day growing season in the Steamboat Springs area, does it make sense to grow things from seed? In some instances, starting a plant from seed is the only way to obtain a new or special variety of plant that is not readily available through garden centers. When you purchase your flower seeds, look for seeds that are hybrids as they give more uniform colors than open-pollinated seeds.

Steamboat, Hayden and Soroco show well at Saturday meet
Steamboat led the way as all three Routt County high school track and field teams excelled Saturday at a meet in Eagle Valley. The Sailors claimed three individual first-place finishes, lifting the team to one of its strongest showings in years.
