Steamboat police ticketing for construction zone turning violations

Drivers who turn left when posted signs prohibit it can get a $120 ticket. The fine could then be doubled to $240 because the violation occurred in a construction zone, Steamboat Springs police said.

Steamboat briefs: 5th-graders and mothers invited to Saturday event

The annual fifth grade mother-daughter event is from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Steamboat Grand. All area fifth grade girls are invited to come with their mothers or on their own. The free event includes breakfast, keynote speaker Deb Armstrong and opportunities for girls and their mothers to prepare for middle school and changes in their lives.

Police arrest suspect for possession of stolen gun

Police on Tuesday also arr­ested a suspect on suspicion of possession of a gun stolen in the November 2008 burglary of a locker the Police Department used to store evidence. Four handguns were stolen from the locker, and police already have arrested one 17-year-old Steamboat resident in the case.

Steamboat Ski Area celebrates closing weekend

Cardboard Classic is Saturday, Pond Skim and free concert are Sunday

Steamboat Ski Area hosts its third annual Springalicious celebration this weekend, with live music and zany events ending the 2009-10 ski season. The inaugural STARS Snowshoe Roundup gets things started at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Participants hike a 2.4-mile snowshoe course to benefit STARS.
