Steamboat Springs High winds shut down several lifts at Steamboat Ski Area on Saturday morning and afternoon. All had reopened by 2:30 p.m. According to Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. spokesman Mike Lane, the Storm Peak Express, Sunshine Express, Sundown Express and Four Points lifts were down as of about 11 a.m.
Four Points reopened at about 12:30 p.m., the ski area reported via Twitter. Storm Peak and Sundown opened just before 2 p.m. Sunshine opened shortly after 2 p.m., according to a message posted on Ski Corp.’s Twitter account.
Steamboat Springs police reported a few wrecks during the snowy morning and afternoon, but no one was injured.
Newborn Network hosts Hayden events this week
Newborn Network will host Colorado Bright Beginnings visits at the Hayden Public Library during April, the Month of the Young Child. At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Newborn Network will present a 2-year-old visit for children 22 to 26 months old. The event includes free developmental materials, ideas for learning games and tips on positive parenting. At 3 p.m. Wednesday, the group will present a 1-year-old visit for children 10 to 16 months old. Parents will receive free developmental materials, ideas for learning games and activities to promote language development in their toddler.
Registration under way for Yampatika camps
Registration is open for Yampatika’s 2010 Summer Camps. Yampatika is offering weeklong programs at the Environmental Learning Center at the Legacy Ranch for children ages 5 to 14. Yampatika’s programs provide children hands-on opportunities to explore their natural surroundings and are designed to inspire environmental stewardship through education. Camps include Wilderness Pioneers 1 and 2 for children ages 12 to 14, which teaches map, compass and GPS skills, as well as wilderness ethics and Leave No Trace practices.
Wilderness Pioneers experience a pack-in, pack-out field trip at the end of the week. There also will be an optional overnight experience for Junior Naturalists, ages 9 to 11. Scrapbooking, album class starting in Hayden
Colorado Northwestern Community College is offering a class called “Your Life in Pictures.” This class is for those who are starting an album or wanting to finish a scrapbooking project. Dede Huston will lead the class and help students to achieve a real sense of accomplishment while preserving memories. The class runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays through May 20 at the Hayden Public Library. Call Lindsay for more information at 276-7291.
Meadows Parking Lot to be closed this week
The free Meadows Parking Lot that serves Steamboat Ski Area with shuttle service will be closed Monday through Thursday. The lot is scheduled to reopen Friday and operate through Closing Day, April 11, according to a news release from Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.
The free Knoll Parking Lot will be open, as will the Lower Knoll Parking Lot. The pay lots at Gondola Square and Ski Time Square will remain open.
