Business File: Lafarge West wins environment award

Lafarge West won a Commitment to Environmental Excellence Award from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. The company took the grand prize out of companies producing 25,001 to 50,000 cubic yards in 2008 for its Steamboat Springs plant.
"The program offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound environmental management practices in their operation," according to a news release.
No other Colorado plants made the list, but Lafarge also won grand prize for its British Columbia plant.
Wine, networking event at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday
The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association has scheduled a "Corks & Connections" wine tasting and networking event for Chamber members Tuesday. The $10 event is 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Cellar Liquors, 730 Lincoln Ave. It includes networking, wine tasting with sommelier Patrick Houghton and quick business tips from Mike Forney with SCORE.

Forbes names Colorado 4th best for business
Gov. Bill Ritter praised Forbes.com for naming Colorado the fourth best state to do business, up from No. 6 last year, according to a news release.
The ranking measures six categories: costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, current economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life. Colorado finished in the top 15 in four of the six main categories, including quality of its work force (first), prospects for growth (second) and economic climate.
