The Steamboat Springs High School volleyball team split a pair of games Saturday, downing Battle Mountain in the morning before falling to Eagle Valley in the afternoon. The Sailors beat the Huskies, 26-24, 25-23 and 25-2, before falling to the Devils, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19.

The Soroco High School football team won four games last season, in its inaugural venture through eight-man football. Friday night in Nucla, Soroco matched that win total with its fourth consecutive win to start this season, this time a 50-8 rout.

Sailors cross-country boys place 4th at invitational

The Rifle High School girls softball team scored early, late, often and just about anytime in between on Saturday in a doubleheader against Steamboat Springs at Howelsen Hill. The Bears rolled to a 29-1 first-game victory and followed it up with a 33-0 second-game win.
