Steamboat Briefs: Gardening workshops hosted Sept. 24 and 27

Yampatika and Deep Roots are co-sponsoring a new series of gardening worshops called From the Ground Up. The workshops are from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 24 and from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27.

The series begins with a tour of Yampatika's new presence on an old ranch: the Legacy Ranch south of Steamboat Springs. The plan is to install an heirloom vegetable garden on the property, in an area that probably hasn't ever seen a garden.

The workshop series will include a discussion about how to determine the location of the garden, taking into consideration factors such as sunlight and water, and what to do to prepare the soil for good food production.

There also will be hands-on work. Call Yampatika at 871-9151.
