It was a big night for Hayden High School senior Rachael Koehler.
The rest of the Tigers volleyball team can't say the same. Despite Koehler recording big kill and block numbers in both of the team's Friday night matches, the squad lost to Vail Christian and Meeker, falling to each in four games.
Hayden coach Greg Johnson said inconsistent play doomed his team.
"We lost on Tuesday to Rifle in five close games, but we just didn't come out with the same fire tonight," he said. "We didn't have that same passion.
Meeker beat Hayden, 25-20, 13-25, 25-21 and 25-20. The score from the Vail Christian game wasn't available at press time.
Koehler had 11 kills and 13 blocks against Meeker and added 10 kills and 10 more blocks in the four-game loss to Vail Christian.
"She played really, really well and has been playing really well," Johnson said. "But the rest of the team didn't play very well."
Koehler's sister, Erin Koehler, had 10 blocks against Meeker, and Ashlee Doolin picked up eight kills in that match.
The team (0-3) now will have to pick itself back up and look for its first win of the season today. Hayden travels to Plateau Valley to open its league slate.
"We're looking for our first win. None of these losses have been in the league, and hopefully we'll get a league win," Johnson said. "We are working on playing much more consistent volleyball and playing the same way with the same intensity from the first game to the last. That's our No. 1 goal right now."
