Tires smash front of SUV, no injuries

Accident occurred Tuesday afternoon on Colo. 131 just south of Soroco High School

— There were no injuries Tuesday afternoon when a set of tires came off a county-owned gravel truck and hit a Chevy Tracker SUV in Oak Creek.

The Tracker could not be driven from the scene.

Oak Creek Fire Chief Chuck Wisecup said two tires came off the northbound gravel truck as it met the SUV just south of Soroco High School on Colorado Highway 131. The front of the Tracker was smashed and the radiator broken, but drivers of both vehicles maintained control, he said.

Wisecup said another tire fell off the semi, bounced down the nearby hillside and crashed into a mobile home, leaving a hole in the siding.

Oak Creek Fire Rescue emergency responders, Colorado State Patrol troopers, Routt County Road and Bridge representatives and Oak Creek Public Works representatives all responded to the accident. State Patrol troopers will investigate the crash.
