Big Head Todd & the Monsters will play a free concert Dec. 23 in Gondola Square at Steamboat Ski Area during the U.S. Olympic Trials in Freestyle & Nordic Combined Skiing, scheduled for Dec. 23 and 24.
Led by guitarist and singer Todd Park Mohr, Big Head Todd & the Monsters is a Colorado-bred group with local ties that has bent the lines of Americana styles for more than 20 years.
In a news release Tuesday, Andy Wirth, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., said: "The quartet's : blend of rock, folk, blues and soul have earned the band worldwide popularity with a wide musical audience, especially here in the Yampa Valley."

Church holding coat drive in Oak Creek through Nov. 7
The Parish of St. Martin's in Oak Creek is holding its St. Martin of Tours Winter Coat Drive.
Coats, hats and gloves can be dropped off at a collection bin inside the Oak Creek Liquor Store during business hours at Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat or at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church any Sunday through Nov. 7.
Coats will be distributed to those in need after noon Mass on Nov. 8.
Appel family exhibit opens Thursday at local museum
An exhibit about Routt County's Appel family opens Thursday at the Tread of Pioneers Museum, 800 Oak St.
It's billed as "an exhibit honoring a family ranching tradition 108 years in the making." Call 879-2214.
