Steamboat Springs City Clerk Julie Franklin said campaign finance reports for local candidates will be available today.
A deadline passed at 5 p.m. Tuesday for local political candidates to file fundraising totals and contributors for the fundraising period ending Oct. 8. Franklin said although she had received finance reports from local candidates, her office was not able to process the reports and make them available to the public and media. Franklin said Tuesday night that the reports will be available as soon as possible today.
City Hall staff said the City Clerk's office was busy preparing for Tuesday night's Steamboat Springs City Council meeting, highlighted by the proposed Steamboat 700 annexation.
Reports filed Tuesday were required of candidates and committees for 2009 municipal and county elections in Colorado. According to the office of Colorado Secretary of State Bernie Buescher, reports due Tuesday - the 21st day before the Nov. 3 election - covered fundraising from Nov. 30, 2008, to Oct. 8 of this year, for new candidates and committees. For annual committees changing their status to active in 2009, the reporting period began Oct. 30, 2008.
The next filing deadline is Oct. 30, for the period from Oct. 9 to Oct. 25.
Finance reports for Oct. 26 to Nov. 28 are due Dec. 3, 30 days after the election.
Colorado law, under the Fair Campaign Practices Act, requires all candidates and committees to report all contributions of $20 or more, including the name and address of the contributor; expenditures; and "obligations entered into by the committee or party."
Colorado law also requires the occupation and employer of each contributor of $100 or more.
