Sailors win homecoming game against Bears, 34-0

With the watchful eyes of members of the 1979 Steamboat Springs High School football team in attendance - the last time Steamboat won a football title - the current Steamboat team made its case Friday as the team to beat for this year's crown.

Brady Meier died Friday after construction site accident

Brady Meier was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. at Yampa Valley Medical Center, Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg said. The cause of his death has not been determined, but Ryg and investigating officers said they think Meier was struck with a fitting from a pressurized water line.

After a 28-15 win against previously unbeaten Dove Creek on Friday night, the members of the Soroco Rams football team walked off the field feeling like they had learned more than how to win a football game. They felt like they had learned what it takes to be champions.

Hayden football wins, volleyball loses

The Hayden High School football team held on for a 7-6 win Friday at Rangely. Rangely scored early to take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter before Hayden bounced back in the second quarter. Rene Valdez's extra point proved to be the difference maker. "It was an ugly one," Hayden coach Shawn Baumgartner said. "But we got away with one."

The Steamboat Springs High School boys tennis team, odds on favorites at nearly every position, breezed through the finals Friday at the second day of the regional tournament in Delta, picking up regional champions at every spot.

Steamboat Christian Center wants to collect a ton of food donations this month - literally. In an effort to provide a boost to LIFT-UP of Routt County's food bank during one of its busiest seasons, the church has set a goal of collecting 2,000 pounds in food donations in Colorado.

MCHS holds regatta featuring themed ships at Loudy-Simpson Park

Moffat County High School seniors Jimmy Howe and Alex McKey were ready to make cardboard boat racing history. Dressed in a poncho and sombrero, McKey pointed out the finer construction points of their taco canoe. The two spent nine hours building the canoe out of corrugated cardboard, duct tape and spray paint for the 2009 Great Cardboard Boat Regatta.

Steamboat Briefs: Workshop on reputation scheduled for Oct. 17

The Young Professionals Network and Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. are hosting a presentation called "Managing Your Professional Reputation: What They Say When You're Not There" from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Presenter Shari Harley runs Candor Matters, a Denver-based training and consultant business.
