Steamboat Briefs: Advocates offers volunteer training beginning today

Advocates Building Peaceful Communities is offering a new volunteer training beginning today. Volunteer training is 25 hours and prepares volunteers to respond to a 24-hour crisis line. The training takes four to six weeks to complete. Volunteers offer support, advocacy, information and referrals to victims of domestic violence. Volunteers are asked to take two to three shifts per month. Contact Amelia at 879-2034 if interested.
Steamboat Springs Airport runway closed today, Friday
The Steamboat Springs Airport, also known as Bob Adams Field, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday for a pavement replacement project. Arrivals and departures will be allowed only in the early morning and evening.
The airport will close for two days later this month for crack sealing. Call Airport Manager Mel Baker at 879-9042 for more information.
Local architecture book wins national award
"Steam Rails to Ski Trails: An Architectural Walking Tour of Downtown Steamboat Springs" won a first-place award from the National Association for Interpretation Media in the category of site publication. The book will be honored at a November ceremony in Hartford, Conn.
The book was commissioned by the city and funded in part by a grant from Preserve America.
