Kiwanis celebrates 28 years of tradition

Holiday ornament collectors will want to add Dec. 4 to their calendars — that’s when the members of the Kiwanis Club of Steamboat Springs will begin selling the 28th edition of their tree decoration at local grocery stores. Kiwanis members will offer the fast-selling ornaments through the weekend.

BOCES retains Toothaker as executive director

Several speak in support of director, despite financial woes

The BOCES board voted to retain Jane Toothaker as executive director at a special meeting Monday night in Steamboat Springs. After more than three and a half hours in an executive session to evaluate the Northwest Colorado Board of Cooperative Education Services administration, the board voted, 4-2, in support of continuing with Toothaker.

Steamboat briefs: Meeting tonight to discuss sexual assaults, rumors

The Steamboat Springs Police Department and Advocates Building Peaceful Communities are hosting a town-hall-style meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Centennial Hall, 124 10th St., to discuss recent sexual assaults.

New tourism gauge to extend forecasts

A new tourism barometer will provide visitor forecasts three months in advance for local businesses and members of the lodging industry. The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is partnering with Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. on the project, which is slated to issue its first release Wednesday.

Jimmy Westlake: Orion rising

All of a sudden, after changing from daylight saving time to standard time at the beginning of November, Orion is rising in the early evening before most of us go to bed instead of around midnight. Orion is one of only two constellations visible from Colorado that contains two first-magnitude stars.
