Free show and turkey chase in Steamboat
Next Saturday is the big day, for at 1:30 in the afternoon the businessmen of Steamboat Springs are playing host to their friends across Northwest Colorado at a free show at the Chief Theater. Moreover, a dozen families or more will have a turkey for Thanksgiving as the gifts of local businessmen.
Immediately following the show, the businessmen have arranged for a turkey chase. A dozen or so turkeys have been obtained for this event. The dozen turkeys will be turned loose from the roof of the Chief Theater, and any who care to may take part in the chase for the birds. This will be an exciting event, for turkeys have a way of flying for some distance before lighting to the ground.
The afternoon events are being started early to provide everyone plenty of time to shop after the entertainment.
Christmas seals bring service to all children
The PEO Sisterhood of Steamboat Springs has been placed in charge of the sale of Christmas seals for this section again this year for the Colorado Tuberculosis Association. The service in which everybody in the community has a part by purchasing little Christmas stickers now is being carried out in Routt County by Miss Anita Schifferer, the visiting registered nurse. She will be in the county for six weeks and will take a health inspection of all the children in the schools. She also will hold conferences with teachers and parents and members of the School Board regarding the care of the children in our community.
Routt County is receiving this service for six weeks because of the fine response of people buying the little seals. The money received from the community is returned 60 percent in the payment of the services of the nurse. The long service this year is due to the large sale of stamps last year.
Census bureau to inquire about birth certificates
Cards will be sent to every family in Routt County from the bureau of the census in Washington, D.C., requesting information regarding the birth registration of children. While determining the completeness of birth registration in Colorado, the campaign will impress upon parents the importance of registering their babies so that their future may be safeguarded. Settling of large estates, land titles, litigation of importance in juvenile and other courts, very frequently depend on a birth certificate. Inheritance, the old age pension law, additional compensation for disabled veterans, are but a few of the many reasons every baby should have its “citizenship” papers.
