No. 1 Pueblo Central 34, No. 9 Delta 7
So much for the long road trip negatively affecting Class 3A No. 1 seed Pueblo Central.
The Wildcats were making their longest trip of the season, about five hours and 250 miles to Delta on Saturday.
But as the team has done all year, Pueblo Central came right out and hit Delta in the face.
Trent Thompson, Hurley Sammon and Bryan Brown caught touchdown passes from quarterback Max Lerille in building a 21-0 first-half lead.
Delta got on the board in the second quarter when Chad Cromwell caught a 15-yard pass from Austin Watson to cut the lead to 21-7.
But Pueblo County wouldn’t let up. The Wildcats got a 6-yard scamper from Lerille in the third quarter and a 35-yard run from Keanu Valdez in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Pueblo County, now 12-0, will host Steamboat Springs (12-0) in the semifinals of the playoffs. A game time and day have yet to be determined.
