Steamboat wins playoff opener

If Friday’s 24-13 opening-round playoff win against Berthoud proved anything, it’s that this Steamboat Springs High School football team is so much more than the glitz and glamour of stats in a box score.

Early Morning

Steamboat welcomes Berthoud to Gardner Field for playoffs

Despite having an undefeated year, a league championship and a team that many think can make a run at the Class 3A football crown, most of Steamboat’s team could enter new territory today. Fourth-seeded Steamboat welcomes 13-seeded Berthoud for a first-round playoff game at 7 p.m. at Gardner Field. The X factor in tonight's game might be the snowy weather. As of 12:30 p.m., school officials reported that the game was still on and that the Berthoud team was on its way.

City plans to hold soft opening Saturday, grand opening in spring

The city’s new skatepark is completed, city staff members said Thursday, ending a long and tumultuous process of community fundraising, planning, delays, more fundraising and, finally, success — just in time for the snow to fly. But if weather allows, a soft opening of the skatepark will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Recycling discussion focuses on single-stream system

Lots of things are recyclable. Not all of them can be recycled in Routt County. That was the predominant message at “Recycling 201,” a Talking Green event Wednesday evening at Steamboat Smokehouse. Speakers from Waste Management, Twin Enviro Services, Yampa Valley Recycles and HomeLink Magazine outlined recycling basics in an hourlong lecture to a standing-room-only crowd in the Smokehouse banquet room.
