But it wasn’t an easy task for Ty Upson, a Marine who served tours in 2003 and 2006 in Iraq. “It’s not very Marine-like to show emotion, but I could barely speak,” he said.

Law enforcement officials say no suspected crimes have been reported. A spate of text messages and e-mails circulating among city residents this week suggest an assault occurred Wednesday.

Winter weather heading our way

Between 4 and 8 inches of snow could fall in Steamboat Springs over the next two days, with a foot or more falling at higher elevations. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Steamboat Springs and surrounding areas through 6 a.m. Saturday.

Routt County firefighters seek help with community plan

The firefighters and forest managers of Routt County are requesting residents’ help to develop a wildfire protection plan for the Steamboat Springs area. A Colorado Senate bill requires all counties to have a plan in place by July 2011.

Steamboat's Advocates, Horizons receive grants

A $20,000 grant from The Women’s Foundation of Colorado will help advance and expand Advocates Building Peaceful Communities programming to include more resources and incorporate more research, Advocates Executive Director Diane Moore said.
