Steamboat Briefs: Lodging expected to be 14 percent full in Steamboat

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association's lodging barometer, in a forecast for the coming weekend, projects 3,500 fewer visitors than corresponding dates last year. The barometer measures occupied pillows at lodgings across Steamboat.

It puts Saturday night lodging at 14 percent full, representing 2,100 people. Last year, the barometer forecast lodging at 37 percent full, representing 5,600 people.

Corna death investigation continues in New York

Lt. Royal Monroe of the Port Chester, N.Y., Police Department said Wednesday that the department is continuing its investigation of the death of Slopeside Grill owner Chris Corna but provided no updates or new information.

Corna, 45, died May 18 in Port Chester. He was driving a rented car that crossed the centerline on U.S. Highway 1 and crashed into the foundation of a railroad bridge. He also had a knife wound to his neck. The Westchester County, N.Y., Medical Examiner's Office ruled Corna's death a suicide, but that ruling has not closed the police investigation.

So as to not cause panic for business owners, isn't the change in lodging #'s because the Steamboat Marathon falls on a different weekend this year.

14% full is a very nice way of saying a 62% decrease in visitors

And still we are filling the Gondola parking lot with condo's and building 108 foot high filing cabinets for human habitation. Where are all the people going to come from to fill all these places. Methinks there be pillows with no heads on them.
