Youths ready to swing

The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs will be swarming with children this weekend.

The center will play host to the U.S. Tennis Association's Intermountain Section 12-and-Under Memorial Day Tennis Championships.

The event starts at 8 a.m. today and runs through Monday afternoon.

"We started with this tournament in 1993, and it has been a terrific way for us to start our season," tennis center director Jim Swiggart said.

The event attracts the top 12-year-olds from a six-state area, and this year, it will have the largest field in its 26 years. There will be 32 boys battling it out on the courts, and 28 girls.

The event is free to spectators. Swiggart also said two courts will remain open for the public.
