Hayden Hayden residents are invited to throw out the old and bring in something new during a community cleanup and garage sale May 9.
Trash receptacles and recycling bins will be available at the Hayden Mercantile. The all-day sale will be indoors and out at the Routt County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. People and groups who want to sell used items, baked goods or crafts can pay $15 for a booth, said Sandy Messing, who is organizing the sale through her event-planning company, Gala Affair.
People might be interested in "maybe making a few dollars, getting out and seeing friends and family, looking for treasure, selling treasure," Messing said.
The HiWay Bar will sell hamburger lunches, she said. Northwest Colorado Products and Routt County Woolens will be on hand, and Bobcat will have machinery on display.
"They can be a vendor with actual products or garage sale items," Messing said.
Nonprofit groups are welcome to rent a booth for a bake sale or other fundraiser, she said. People who want to rent a booth can call Messing by 6 p.m. May 8 at 276-2046 or 734-6100.
The event is partly a fundraiser for the Hayden Chamber of Commerce, Chamber President Joyce Folley said. The sale was a hit last year, she said.
"People had so much fun last year being able to sit with each other instead of sitting at home by themselves," Folley said.
The Chamber aims to raise money for downtown beautification projects, she said. The group plans to post banners promoting nonprofit organizations and events on light poles downtown, Folley said. The 2-foot-by-5-foot banners will hang down from the poles. Those might be up next month, she said.
The Chamber's banner will present a possible town slogan: Hayden, the gateway to western adventure. The group also might add planters and flowers to beautify the area, Folley said.
For those who want to support that cause and bring in money for themselves, plenty of sale booths are available inside and outside.
"It turned out great last year, so we're really hoping to get a good crowd," Folley said.
