Steamboat briefs: Woman receives citation after accident with cyclist

— Kathy Whaley was cited for careless driving causing bodily injury in conjunction with a March 19 accident near Lake Catamount that injured a local cyclist, Routt County Sheriff's Office Investigator Ken Klinger said Tuesday.

Whaley is accused of striking cyclist Wayne Ranieri, who is listed in fair condition at Yampa Valley Medical Center. Ranieri's wife, Julie, said her husband is scheduled to undergo a second surgery today.

Information on the citation was not yet available when the Steamboat Today reported Tuesday that there were no citations issued in connection with the accident.

Curves holding food drive for LIFT-UP through Tuesday

Curves is holding its annual food drive for LIFT-UP of Routt County through Tuesday. Anyone can drop off non-perishable food and/or donations for LIFT-UP from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, at Curves, 2432 Lincoln Ave., west of downtown near Big O Tires. Steamboat swim team to hold tryouts April 7 to 9

Steamboat Springs Swim Team holds tryouts for new swimmers from 4 to 6 p.m. April 7 to 9 at Old Town Hot Springs, where sign-up forms are posted.

Returning swimmers must mail a completed entry form by today to: SSST, P.O. Box 772117, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477. Forms also are available online at http://steamboatswimteam.com or in the swim team file cabinet at Old Town Hot Springs. Call Essie at 879-5822.
