Steamboat soccer knocks out Battle Mountain
Sailors picks up Denver tournament win during final opportunity of weekend

Steamboat Springs Senior goalie Hanna Berglund said she almost got bored Saturday as her Steamboat Springs High School soccer team matched up against Battle Mountain in the final round of a weekend tournament in Denver.
Not that she's complaining.
"A slow game against Battle Mountain is a good thing for me," she said.
And it was a good thing for the Sailors. Steamboat won the game, 7-1, picking up its first victory on a tough road trip.
Steamboat lost its games Thursday and Friday, but in the end, those games against talented teams from larger schools may have helped.
"Those first two games really showed us what kind of competition is in Denver, and it showed us we can stand with them," Berglund said. "By keeping the scores tight and by competing throughout those games, it really showed us the kind of potential we have on this team."
That potential was unleashed Saturday, much to the dismay of an already beat-up Battle Mountain.
The teams are league rivals but hadn't met this season. Steamboat had something to prove, though, because the Huskies swept the season series a year ago.
An offensive outburst paved the way for the Sailors' revenge.
Kiersten Henry scored three goals. Mia Quick added two, and Morgan Bessette and Elise Anderson each scored one.
"Throughout the game, we kept a lot of possessions," Berglund said. "We really worked on moving it around and kept the ball under our control.
"It was really good."
The win wrapped up what Steamboat coach Rob Bohlmann said was a great weekend for his team.
Even the 1-2 record couldn't diminish his optimism.
"Battle Mountain wasn't at full strength, but we stepped in and played well," Bohlmann said. "This tournament was a great experience."
