Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School boys baseball team split a pair of games on Saturday in the final day of the Hotchkiss Tournament.
Steamboat lost 4-0 early in the day to Monte Vista, before finally getting the bats going against Battle Mountain, winning 18-9.
In the first game against Monte Vista, Steamboat failed to get a hit. Combined with Friday's loss to Bayfield, Steamboat had totaled one hit in its first two games of the tournament. But against Battle Mountain, Steamboat finally swung some heavy lumber.
Highlighted by a Matt Watwood two-run home run, Steamboat cruised against its Western Slope League foe.
Steamboat next plays a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Springs.
"We'll start again Monday," Steamboat manager Dave Roy said about the team's practice schedule. "I hope to stay loose with the bats. If we do that we'll have a chance to be successful."
