Hayden's Mahanna named Optimist Teen of the Month

Steamboat Springs — Caitlin Mahanna, a senior at Hayden High School, was selected as the Optimist Teen of the Month. Mahanna, a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, also remains active in sports including volleyball, basketball and track, along with weekend skiing. In her application, she wrote that during the summer she often can be found camping, rafting, biking and hiking. She maintains grades to be named to the school's high honor roll, and after high school graduation, she plans to study to become a lawyer or scientist.

Stagecoach's Achtner named scholar at UNC

Mikal Achtner, of Stagecoach, was named a First-Year Scholar at the University of Northern Colorado. To earn the award, Achtner maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the fall 2008 semester. For the distinction, Achtner was invited to a First-Year Scholars reception.
