— Former Steamboat Springs resident Travis Darling continued his hot start at the College National Finals Rodeo.

After two rounds, Darling - a graduate of Ignacio High School in southwestern Colorado - was in seventh place in saddle bronc riding with a score of 143.5.

Bryan Martinat and Jake Wright were tied for first with a score of 151.5.

Darling scored a 74 his first ride and a 69.5 on his second ride.

Darling is a sophomore at Casper College in Wyoming. This is his first qualification in saddle bronc riding. The CNFR started Sunday and runs until Saturday. At stake are National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association titles and nearly $250,000 in scholarships.

Each contestant has three preliminary rounds of competition before the final round Saturday. Scores and times from those three rounds will be added up, and the 12 contestants with the fastest total times or highest total scores will advance to the finals.

Complete results will be available at www.cnfr.com.
