The U.S. Forest Service is hosting a public meeting and field trip beginning at 9:30 a.m. today to North Routt County to visit proposed snowmobile parking lots and snowmobile routes in the Columbine area. Meet at the North Routt Fire Station No. 2 on Routt County Road 129, just north of Steamboat Lake.

The Forest Service is accepting public comments on three alternatives. A Scoping Notice outlining the parking lot situation, alternatives and a proposed action is at www.fs.fed.us/r2/mbr/projects/rec. The Forest Service is accepting written public comments on the proposal until Aug. 25.

The purpose of the proposal is to maintain groomed and marked snowmobile trail access and connectivity from Steamboat Lake State Park to the Routt National Forest area north of Columbine and to improve access to parking on the National Forest away from residential areas.
