Steamboat Springs — After a brief discussion Tuesday, the Routt County Board of Commissioners approved a $10,800 contribution to the All Crimes Enforcement Team's 2010 budget.

In addition to the county, ACET receives contributions toward its budget from police departments in Craig and Steamboat Springs, the Moffat County Sheriff's Office, Moffat County's portion of the 14th Judicial District Attorney's budget and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The 2010 budget also includes more than $27,000 in Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant funding. ACET's total operating budget is $330,279.

The 13-year-old task force has conducted 25 investigations in Routt, Moffat and Grand counties since Jan. 1, including 23 investigations for drugs and one each for child sexual assault and retaliation of a witness.

The investigations have resulted in 29 arrests or suspects, depending on whether the investigation has been completed or remains ongoing. A total of 40 felonies have been charged to those arrested.

Commander Garrett Wiggins said ACET conducts 50 to 60 investigations annually. He said the task force's investigations are down this year because they had to take time to train a new investigator.

"But I expect to be in the neighborhood (of 50 to 60 investigations) by the end of the year," he said.

Wiggins added that ACET's operating budget hasn't changed much during the past three years.

Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak said the amount contributed by the county was the same as last year. She said even though some local cities contribute to ACET's budget, it's important for the county to participate, as well.

"The community benefits from this agency," Stahoviak said.
