Steamboat briefs: Memorial service for Ann Copeland today

Steamboat Springs A memorial service for Hayden native Ann Copeland is at 2 p.m. today at the Hayden High School gym. A wake is at 6 p.m. at the HiWay Bar at 136 E. Jefferson Ave. in Hayden. Memorial donations may be made to the Ann Copeland Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of First National Bank of the Rockies. An online guestbook is at www.grantmortuary.com.
C.R. 14 closed near Tree Haus on Monday, Tuesday
The Routt County Road and Bridge Department will close Routt County Road 14 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday from about the Steamboat Springs city limits to the Tree Haus subdivision, to repair a slide area. There is no detour. Call the department at 879-0831.

Horizons Specialized Services needs volunteers
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to individuals with developmental disabilities. Volunteers spend at least three hours a month with Horizons clients. Activities can include hiking, biking, bowling, swimming, fishing, walks and more. If interested, call Rebecca Hanson at 879-4466, ext. 111.
Bust of Steamboat in need of sponsors
The Bust of Steamboat is looking for presenting sponsors for the eighth annual Bust of Steamboat on Oct. 30 at Three Peaks Bar and Grill. Sponsorships are available at all levels and may include tickets to the auction, your business featured on the event poster and in the evening's auction program, and display advertising.
The Bust of Steamboat is organized by the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project, a completely volunteer organization where 100 percent of the funds stay local and help pay for mammograms, wellness exams and treatment in the fight against breast cancer. Yampatika offering summer programs
Yampatika's summer programs provide children with hands-on opportunities to explore their natural surroundings. Each program is theme-based and designed to inspire environmental stewardship through education. This summer's themes include Recycling and Beyond, Legends of the Yampa Valley, and Winged Wonders. New for 2009, Wilderness Pioneers is offered for children ages 12 to 14. This program will teach wilderness ethics and Leave No Trace practices, ending with a pack in, pack out overnight trip. Programs are offered for children ages 5 to 14 and run through Aug. 14. Yampatika has need-based scholarships available, thanks to the Craig-Scheckman Family Foundation. Participants needed for Hahn's Peak fair
Artisans and crafters are invited to participate in the fourth annual Hahn's Peak Arts, Crafts and Collectibles Fair, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 5. All spaces will be outside and rent for $30 each. Proceeds from space rentals benefit the Hahn's Peak Historical Society. Anyone interested in renting a space can call Becky at 846-3868.
