Steamboat Springs Colorado State University's summer outreach tour hits Steamboat Springs today and Tuesday with scheduled appearances by CSU-Fort Collins President Dr. Tony Frank, CSU System Chancellor Joe Blake and head football coach Steve Fairchild.
The trio of CSU dignitaries headlines an alumni and friends event from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn. Frank is scheduled to speak at separate Rotary Club breakfast and lunch events Tuesday.
"It's important that we spend time visiting Colorado's communities, reaching out and listening to their concerns and taking note of their priorities," Frank said in a news release. "Colorado State is the land-grant university, and our mission is to provide Coloradans access to education, as well as service and outreach they can use. The best way to find out what people need is to ask them."
The tour will include meetings with CSU Extension Service staff, members of CSU's Colorado State Forest Service and the university's Agricultural Experiment Station network, as well as with alumni, political officials, business and community leaders, students, parents and other interested citizens, according to a news release.
Tonight's alumni and friends event is free and open to the public. CSU officials say the event offers a chance to hear from university leadership and provide input on CSU's impact in the community. Anyone interested in attending can visit www.alumni.colostate.edu or call 800-286-2586 for more information and to RSVP.
University leaders from the areas of Extension, Agricultural Sciences, Alumni, Athletics, Outreach and Strategic Partnerships, Advancement and Strategic Initiatives and others are expected to join Frank for the trip.
Frank served as CSU's interim president after the November resignation of former president and system chancellor Larry Penley. Frank was awarded the permanent position effective July 1. Blake also received his appointment July 1 after serving as president and chief executive of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. As system chancellor, Blake oversees the entire CSU system, which includes campuses in Fort Collins and Pueblo, as well as CSU-Global.
CSU officials also have scheduled stops in Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Rifle, Edwards and Eagle during their tour this week.
