— A power outage in an Emerald Mountain tower turned local radio stations to static this morning.

Yampa Valley Electric Association spokesman Jim Chappell said a faulty cable to the tower caused the outage. Power was restored early Friday afternoon.

"We have an underground cable that has a bad elbow on it that feeds up on Emerald Mountain," Chappell said just before noon, adding that reaching the cable required crews to remove quite a bit of accumulated snow.

John Johnston, local program director for NRC Broadcasting, said most of NRC's local stations - including Jack FM on 95.9 and 95.5 and ZRock on 97.3 - were not able to broadcast late Friday morning because of the outage. KFMU at 104.1 maintained its broadcast, he said, because that station airs through a Stagecoach facility.
