The Hayden Tigers wrestling team returned from the 35th annual Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, with some strong showings in tow.
Treyben Letlow led the Hayden wrestlers with a third-place finish in the 215-pound weight class. Teammate Chad Terry placed sixth at 103 pounds, Mitch Doolin was seventh at 160 pounds, and Coy Letlow placed fifth at 189 pounds.
"It's a tough tournament with 30-some teams from Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. Big schools," coach Ty Zabel said. "I'm real happy. Our team hung in there. A lot of our other guys did well by winning a couple of matches before getting knocked out of the tournament, and we picked up several junior varsity matches that will help our team with experience."
Zabel said the team is expected to travel to Rangely this weekend. The team is scheduled to compete in a dual meet against Duchesne, Utah, on Friday night, and will compete in the Rangely Tournament on Saturday.
Steamboat Springs wrestling coach Shane Yeager said his team took last weekend off hoping to recover from some injuries.
However, the team is expected to be back on the mat this weekend when several members travel to Evergreen for an invitational tournament.
