— Steamboat Ski Patrol located two men Friday afternoon who had been lost outside Steamboat Ski Area for about five hours.

The two men apparently went out of bounds at about noon Friday. One used his cell phone to call for help at about 2:30 p.m. The men, one skier and one snowboarder, were located safely by Ski Patrol shortly after 5 p.m., Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. spokeswoman Loryn Kasten said.

"They're back safe and sound at the base area," Kasten said.

The two men were lost somewhere in the Fish Creek Falls drainage area, Routt County Search and Rescue member Kristia Check-Hill said. A Search and Rescue team was on standby to join in the search Friday afternoon, if requested to do so by Ski Patrol.

The identities of the two lost men were not available Friday.

More snow in the forecast

Between 4 and 8 inches of snow are expected today in Steamboat Springs, thanks to a storm that began moving in Friday night, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory remains in effect through midnight.

Temperatures today are poised to dip from near freezing down to the teens, forecaster Norv Larson said Friday.

The storm system's northwest flow also will bring 10 to 20 mph winds, with gusts as fast as 30, though speeds will diminish through the day as the cold front pushes its way through the Yampa Valley, Larson said.

The wind may produce blowing and drifting snow on Rabbit Ears Pass and limit visibility for motorists.

"That's still enough wind to create some visibility issues and blow some snow around," Larson said. "And those passes are never fun."

More snow is expected next week, with the next storm system due to arrive Monday afternoon, Larson said. Thanks to the system's strong northwest flow and the jet stream, the storm is poised to be "very productive" in terms of snowfall for the Steamboat Springs area, Larson said.
