Sandy Fisher: More 'stuff' needed

John Fetcher and Jim Temple were the "stuff" of great Americans. They, like countless other Americans of their generation, defined who we are today. I am saddened by their deaths, for their families and for our loss as a country.
I am afraid we have none of their "stuff" left, in the form of other ground-breaking Americans. Instead, America is inundated by individuals who are governed by corruption, greed and other selfish motives. Politics has reached a crescendo with politicians "on the take" from every major money holder (private and corporate) in America. Who stands up for America? Certainly no one in a position of power that I can see.
I am ashamed of who we have become. Hopefully John and Jim can help guide us from their balcony in heaven. Thankfully, their legacy of decency and honesty lives on in one place in America - our town of Steamboat.
