Buddy Kinder named Rotary's February Teen

Buddy Kinder, a senior at The Lowell Whiteman School, is the Rotary Club's Student of the Month for February. Kinder is the son of Pamela and Dennis Kinder, of Steamboat Springs. He was recognized at the regular Rotary Club luncheon meeting Tuesday.

Kinder was selected because his "experience at Lowell Whiteman is well rounded. Academically, he has prospered in challenging programs including Advanced Placement Calculus 2 and AP Spanish V after teaching himself the basics of these subjects. He is currently learning Japanese," the Rotary announced.

Kinder also is involved in cross country, track and other running events. In the fall, Kinder will enroll at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He is the cadet commander for the Civil Air Patrol.

Nicolai Buccino named Optimist Teen of the Month

Nicolai Buccino, senior at Christian Heritage School, was named Optimist Teen of the Month for January. Buccino plans to graduate in May 2009 and attend college to major in music. He is enrolled in three Advanced Placement courses - literature, psychology and government - along with a Bible course and maintains a 3.433 grade point average, Principal Alan Weisberg said.

"We chose him because of his leadership role in his church and school, which shows in his resume," Optimist President Rob MacCarthy wrote.

Buccino is a leader in Steamboat Springs Young Life and regularly plays music for weddings. He is also a guitarist and vocalist for the Euzoa worship team.
