— A missing snowboarder was found safe about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, said Russ Sanford, incident commander and president of Routt County Search and Rescue.

Search and Rescue was paged out at about 6 p.m. to the area of Buffalo Pass for a missing snowboarder.

Sanford said the male snowboarder was "hybrid snowboarding," in which snowmobiles were used to take skiers or snowboarders up Buffalo Pass. Then the skiers or snowboarders head down the mountain.

Sanford said the snowboarder went too far to skier's left and ended up in the North Fork of Fish Creek Drainage.

Search and Rescue members were able to locate the snowboarder at about 9:30 p.m. and were working Saturday night to get him to the Fish Creek Falls parking area, Sanford said.

The snowboarder was dressed in ski gear and was warm and fine when rescuers found him, but Sanford said that he did not have survival gear or anything to start a fire.

Sanford's advice to those skiing in the backcountry: "Know where you are and where you're going and where the danger points are." Sanford said to get briefed by people who know the correct paths before starting to ski or snowboard in unknown areas.

Sanford said that with 18 search missions this year, it is shaping up to be one of the busiest years for Search and Rescue.

Also Saturday night, two snowmobilers were reported missing. Sanford said it sounded like the missing pair, a father and son in North Routt, were well-equipped, so Search and Rescue was on standby when they learned the pair was safe and that no search would be needed.
