Who will be the champion ski jumper in the tournament of the Steamboat Springs Mid-Winter Sports Carnival in Steamboat Springs on Feb. 23 and 24? Will it be Peder Falstad, of the Black Hills Club of South Dakota, who made the Howelsen Hill record of 212 feet, or will he have to give the honor to one of the Steamboat riders who are making enviable records at the various tournaments this year? Falstad hopes to exceed his record. It is going to be thrilling sport for the spectators.
Howelsen Hill is in excellent shape for the tournament. The snow is packed, and there is plenty of it there now, should there be no more snow. The street events will be held on the racetrack across the river if there is no more snow than there is at the present time. The manager of the tournament is enthusiastic about the celebration this winter because of the fine weather, which will enable people to come from long distances to Steamboat. Usually, when there is so much snow, traveling is more difficult. Inquiries are coming from various towns on the Western Slope who are planning to send large contingents to the marvelous winter show.
Among the special stunts for the street carnival will be a spectacular ski drill by the LRC's. The Legion Boys will have their own event. The Scouts and Rangers are keeping something a deep, dark secret, a thrilling surprise on skis. The Legion drums and bugle corps will put pep into the program with martial music.
