Best of the Web: Housing policy changes are common sense
Advertisement
Finally some common sense coming out of council on this subject. Let's hope that they address the coming budget shortfall in the same no-nonsense manner. Good job. : Incusionary zoning is a poor concept. It fails to meet its goals of an economically integrated community and, instead, puts lower income locals into nightly rental development without stable neighborhoods and saddled with deed-restricted property that has a poor track record of selling. Going to a model that provides resources that can be used to enable other solutions is much better.

2nd homeowners help
Second home pressure is a central factor. : I hope we are saying, "Dear second home buyer. So glad you like Steamboat. : Beautiful experiences with your loved ones do come true here. You won't need statues of children playing to grace your timeshare, because our town is chock full of laughing kids and their families. : Thanks so much for the contribution you made to help those families live here too."

Stagecoach tap fee hike
For those who don't know, tap fees get you absolutely nothing in the way of piping, credits or services.
It is simply paying for the right to connect to their system.
Shouldn't everyone who uses this treatment plant help pay for a new one?
Instead of raising the monthly bills by a measly buck, couldn't they raise everyone's 20 percent, the tap fee 20 to 30 percent, and pay for this plant?

Tap fee counterproductive
In the effort to raise money, this huge increase seems counterproductive.
