Steamboat briefs: Petitions for Hayden's Charter Commission due Feb. 27

Petitions are available for Hayden residents who want to serve on the town's home rule Charter Commission. If voters choose to move toward becoming a home-rule instead of statutory municipality, they will elect a nine-member commission to create a town charter. People who want to run for the commission must gather 25 signatures and return the petition by Feb. 27.

Hayden residents will vote March 31 on whether to elect a Charter Commission and who will be on it. Those elected serve only until the charter is completed.

Three people have picked up petitions, and one person has returned the document, Deputy Town Clerk Bonnie Carrico said. Anyone interested can come to Town Hall at 178 W. Jefferson Ave., or call 970-276-3741.
