— The Steamboat Springs Booster Club is set to begin selling Sailors Pavers - engraved bricks that will line the entrance to Gardner Field at Steamboat Springs High School.

The Pavers will be available in 4-inch-by-4-inch or 4-inch-by-8-inch segments. The smaller Pavers cost $100 and can feature as many as three lines of text, while the larger size can feature a logo, photo or as many as five lines of text.

Replica Pavers for home display are available for $60. All purchases are tax deductible.

"It's going to dress up the whole area," said Jim Swiggart, who along with Steve Dawes is overseeing the project. "It's a great solution to helping make the entrance of the football field look much better."

There will be 350 smaller Pavers for sale and 50 larger ones. Swiggart said he already has sold more than 20 of the smaller ones and 11 of the larger ones. He said he hopes to have them all sold and installed by graduation.

"You'll be able to find your brick from when you graduated," said Booster Club President Robin Hanley, who said the idea formed from seeing similar projects on college and high school campuses across the country. "They are just really slick looking. It's a great improvement to the field up there. They're going to be really nice."

The Steamboat Springs Booster Club has supported Steamboat scholars and athletes for more than 30 years. Its yearly budget of $67,000 helps middle school and high school students. In addition to helping fund Tier II sports, it also supports FBLA, cheerleading, speech team, Knowledge Bowl and Science Olympian competitions. Current projects include funding for audio visual equipment for the basketball teams and support for the debate team's trips to state and national competitions.
