Joanne Palmer: A piece of holiday luck

I had an early Christmas miracle. Last week, as I drove down U.S. Highway 40, my Ford SUV skidded on a patch of ice, and I lost control. I swerved into the oncoming lane and headed straight for a Subaru. I yanked the steering wheel hard to the right and put my SUV into a 180. I kept waiting for it to stop. I was sure my car would stop.

Weather Service predicts a few inches today and Thursday

Routt County residents dreaming of a white Christmas might have to keep dreaming until next year. At least in terms of actual, Bing Crosby-esque snowfall on Christmas Day, the forecast does not look good.

Nordic team members: Lost bags, jet lag are just part of the sport

Changed flights, missing bags and long international flights are just part of the game for the members of the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team. “There is nothing that we can do about it,” said Dave Jarrett, U.S. Nordic combined coach. “Unless we want to live in Europe, we are always going to be faced with challenging flights and tight schedules.”

Planned North Routt timber sale to span 4,500 acres

The way has been cleared this month for one of the largest timber sales on public land in Routt County in years, with the issuance of a final decision on the environmental assessment of the Little Snake North Timber Sales and fuels reduction project. Chuck McConnell: No thanks, Sen. Bennet

On Dec. 17, I participated in U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s Conversations with Coloradans here in Steamboat. I wanted to learn how our senator could vote for the health care “reform” legislation now being promulgated when the majority of American voters’ opposition has been made abundantly clear. Sadly, Mr. Bennet will vote in favor of this bill, and I have heard absolutely no rational reason why.

Bud Romberg: Good for all of us

Steamboat Springs residents will have, as we all know, an opportunity shortly to ratify or reject the annexation of Steamboat 700.
