Olympic Trials offer athletes a chance at their dreams: an Olympic berth
On Wednesday and Thursday in Steamboat Springs, athletes on the U.S. Freestyle and U.S. Nordic Combined ski teams will look to replicate what moguls skier Travis Mayer and U.S. Freestyle team aerialist Ryan St. Onge have done in previous Olympic Trials. “The Olympic Trials is one of the most important events of the year for us,” St. Onge said. “Usually we have to spend all the Olympic preparation period competing to gain spots on the team. But if you win the Olympic Trials and get that spot early, you can focus all your attention on the Olympic Games.”

Fire destroys mobile home in Oak Creek
No injuries, but family loses nearly everything
A mobile home in Oak Creek went up in flames Tuesday night, destroying nearly all of a family’s belongings as they prepared to permanently settle into the home after Christmas. No one was injured in the blaze.

Cog Road work ending soon
$1.2 million project shores up mudslide problems
The construction superintendent overseeing $1.23 million in repairs to the Cog Road north of Hayden said the work is going well and should be finished by mid-January. The project initially was scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, but given the unexpected setbacks, county officials are content with the pace of the work.
