Best of the Web: Wastewater costs
It appears that the costs for wastewater improvements were left out of the article. My addition puts that value at $22,600,000. The Mount Werner Water District will not be responsible for any of these costs. That leaves the citizens of Old Town with a $56,000,000 bill. Seems like a lot of money to me. Living in Old Town, it is difficult for me to see my benefit. I understand that some of this is facilities maintenance that for some reason have been ignored, but a large portion of the bill is to expand the city to the west.
Loretta Van Norstrand: Property tax
Let’s review. Steamboat Springs City Council rushed into a vote to annex Steamboat 700 before it had all the information about how current residents would be affected.
Jim and Lynn Kelley: Countywide vote
Now that City Council has approved a vote for Steamboat 700, the members must consider the decision flawed as they have left out the people most affected by the decision — those in the Steamboat II, Heritage Park and Silver Spur subdivisions. Most people in Old Town, the south valley and on the mountain don’t even know we exist and mostly don’t care. So the decision that affects us greatly has little impact on the people of Steamboat who get to vote.
Our View: Buff Pass fee makes sense
The U.S. Forest Service’s plan to impose a $5 day-use fee on Buffalo Pass could be a reasonable measure to address traffic, parking, trash and other concerns at the heavily used recreation area just north of Steamboat Springs city limits. But there’s much to be worked out — and deservedly so — before such a fee is put in place.
