Group hosts event with civic leaders to discuss revised ballot process

If a ballroom at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort were the U.S. Senate floor, America would have health care reform by now. Local Democrats and Re­­publicans found widespread agreement on numerous ideas Wed­nesday evening during a three-hour event about ballot reform and public policy hosted by Colorado’s Future.

Steamboat Springs Police Department detectives still are awaiting the results from evidence sent to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation in the reported sexual assault in October at 11th and Oak streets.

Ken Carlson’s paintings featured at Steamboat Art Museum

Ken Carlson has spent the bulk of his life working toward a singular goal: being a wildlife painter. Carlson’s work is featured at Steamboat Art Museum through the winter. The exhibition is a showcase of years of research into seeking the perfectly lit landscape, learning to depict animals of all kinds and finding the right way to match those skills, Carlson said.

About 58 pot plants seized outside Yampa

Two SWAT teams led by the Routt County Sheriff’s Office searched two homes in the Yampa area Wednesday morning. Inside one of the homes, deputies reportedly found a marijuana-growing operation with about 58 marijuana plants and dried marijuana.

South Routt School Board considers budget

2008-09 audit to be presented, voted on tonight

The South Routt School District’s 2009-10 final budget is larger than the proposed budget that was first presented during the summer. Board members are scheduled to consider adopting the budget with a $5.5 million general fund when they meet tonight.

3:42 a.m. Police were called to a request for a welfare check on a woman who was painting a condo and had not returned to her home on Cypress Court for more than eight hours. Officers said the woman fell asleep after painting the room and that everything was fine.

Local grocery workers vote ‘no’ on contract

Across Colorado, City Market agreement approved, Safeway’s denied by workers

Grocery workers at Safeway and City Market in Steamboat Springs voted to reject a contract offer with management, but statewide, City Market workers voted to accept a similar offer. Statewide, Safeway workers rejected the offer.

US senator’s regional representative will be at library today

Todd Hagenbuch is going to be a busy man this afternoon. Hagenbuch, the regional representative for U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., is meeting with members of the public from 1 to 4 p.m. today in a conference room at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Hagenbuch will offer assistance with federal agencies and discuss issues constituents want to bring to Bennet’s attention.

Annual museum tour starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Craig

For the second year in a row, Yampa Valley history aficionados are in for a treat. The Northwest Colorado Parade of Museums will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday from the Wyman Museum in Craig.

Avalanche danger could last all winter

30 slides reported in area since Sunday

The lack of deep snow and “rotten base” of snowpack have created avalanche conditions that could last the whole winter, according to avalanche forecasters. Since Sunday, 30 avalanches have been reported in the mountains north of Steamboat and in the Flat Tops.
