Senior projects put students’ passions, career interests on display
Steamboat Springs High School senior Chandler Kim lost her mother to cancer in September 2006. Her senior project, an art show to display her paintings, is more than an opportunity to raise money for Northwest Colorado Aid and Support group, which assists people who can’t afford cancer treatment. Kim said painting helps her reach her “happy place.”

Lodwick wins again at Continental Cup Nordic event
Steamboat Springs skier Todd Lodwick made it two in a row Sunday as he won the second day of competition at a Continental Cup Nordic combined event in Park City, Utah. A year ago, Lodwick used the same Park City event to re-enter the world of Nordic combined. He won then, as well, and quickly rejoined the World Cup circuit.
State group honors Stahoviak
Commissioner receives award from Colorado Counties Inc.
Routt County Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak recently received a statewide award for distinguished service. At its annual winter conference, held two weeks ago in Colorado Springs, Colorado Counties Inc. presented Stahoviak with an award honoring Stahoviak’s longtime service to Northwest Colorado.

In seven years, Emily Lovett and Katie Lindquist have turned their brainchild for a Steamboat Springs-based Nordic ski camp into a thriving, successful venture. The camp, which ran Saturday and Sunday at the Steamboat Nordic Center in Steamboat Springs, was again filled to the brim.

Slick conditions hit local roads; snow expected to stop today
A 41-year-old man was taken to the hospital after two Jeeps collided Sunday afternoon at Pine Grove Road and U.S. Highway 40. Steamboat Springs Police Department officer Doug Scherar said the 41-year-old’s white Jeep was crossing Pine Grove Road at about 12:30 p.m. when a red Jeep struck it after not stopping at a red light while northbound on U.S. 40.

Tigers wrap up Cowboy Shootout with back-to-back victories
The Hayden boys basketball team got a frustrating start to the weekend by losing in the first round of the Cowboy Shootout tournament in Meeker. The back-to-back victories that followed that letdown left the Tigers feeling confident, however.

The Yampa Valley Autism Program is seeking care providers for its Respite Program. Respite Program care providers are made available to families of children with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities for hire to help as needed.

Steamboat Springs School District to give tax credit
Schools over-collect property taxes in ’07-’08, ’08-’09
Steamboat Springs residents will receive a property tax credit from the school district next year. Steamboat Springs School District Finance Director Dale Mellor will give School Board members a presentation tonight describing how the district over-collected property taxes in 2007-08 and 2008-09. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in rooms 113 and 114 of Centennial Hall at 124 10th St.
