Retail postal service will end Jan. 15 at the Sundance post office, and negotiations are under way to keep P.O. boxes there after March 15. Steamboat Springs Postmaster Tim O’Brien said after Jan. 15, four Sundance employees will move to the downtown branch, where retail services will be consolidated.

Former Craig Police Department detective Ken Johnson pleaded not guilty to three felony charges Tuesday in Moffat County District Court. Johnson, who resigned from the police department in September and was arrested in October, is charged with attempting to influence a public servant, a Class 4 felony; as well as accessory to a crime and embezzlement of public property, Class 5 felonies.

Thirty-five local families still are seeking donors to meet their last-minute requests in the Routt County United Way’s annual Christmas Wishes program, but 165 families already have been matched.
Fund Board OKs new bylaws
Measure allows districts to share half-cent sales tax revenue
It’s official. After a lengthy discussion that included several minor changes, the Education Fund Board approved new bylaws Wednesday night. They allow the Fund Board to formally share the Steamboat Springs half-cent sales tax for education with the Hayden and South Routt school districts.
Audit reveals larger BOCES deficit
The Northwest Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services carried a $44,632 deficit into fiscal year 2009-10, according to a final audit report presented Wednesday. The deficit is about $10,000 more than what was projected in a draft version of the organization’s audit presented last month.

Steamboat Springs Shoot-Out opens today
Steamboat boys basketball starts 3-day tournament at 6:30 p.m.
It’s still early, but today’s opening of the Steamboat Springs Shoot-Out should be the first test for the Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team. Steamboat opens at 6:30 p.m. today against Summit in the Kelly Meek Gymnasium.
