Ski area expands terrain offerings

Steamboat Ski Area will offer top-to-bottom skiing today for the first time this season with the opening of the Storm Peak Express lift and Buddy’s Run and Tornado Lane ski trails. The expanded terrain openings come on the heels of two days of fresh snow and a forecast that indicates more snow is on the way.

The audience let out a collective “Whoa!” as they watched an adaptive skier land a big jump. The Strawberry Park Elementary School second- and third-graders had a similar reaction while watching clips of adaptive athletes hitting rails and riding through deep powder.

High school football team holds season-ending banquet

Although there was still a stinging feeling from dropping the Class 3A state championship game Saturday, the Steamboat Springs High School football team celebrated its season Tuesday with a season-ending banquet. Ten Sailors were named to the Western Slope All-League team, and two split the League’s Co-Back of the Year award.

Girl Scout Reagan Mertz is collecting new and used Crocs and other shoes for the nonprofit Amahoro Project 1919, benefiting a Rwandan orphanage. Donation bins are at Bud Werner Memorial Library, Soda Creek and Strawberry Park elementary schools, Steamboat Springs Middle School, Wells Fargo, Alpine Bank, Yampa Valley Bank, Holy Name Catholic Church, the Steamboat Pilot & Today offices, City Market, Safeway and Wal-Mart. Look for boxes of blue, yellow and green: the colors of the Rwandan flag.

2:53 a.m. Routt County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue emergency responders and Steamboat Springs Police Department officers were called to a request for an ambulance in the 28000 block of Routt County Road 14. Medical crews took a 46-year-old woman with a medical issue to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Fund Board to review changes

Bylaws, discussion of policies and procedures highlight meeting

The Education Fund board will decide tonight whether to approve new bylaws that include provisions for how to share revenue from the city of Steamboat Springs’ half-cent sales tax for education with the Hayden and South Routt school districts.
