Jury's verdict: Guilty

A jury returned a verdict of guilty against Craig man Terry Hankins about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday morning in Moffat County District Court. Hankins was convicted of first-degree murder, a Class 1 felony, and abuse of a corpse, a Class 2 misdemeanor, in connection with the June 2007 death of his wife, 34-year-old Cynthia Hankins, also of Craig.

Steamboat briefs: Open house set to discuss proposal to cut down trees

The U.S. Forest Service will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. today at its Hahn's Peak-Bears Ears District Office at 925 Weiss Drive, to discuss a proposal to cut down beetle-killed trees near utility lines in the Medicine Bow-Routt, Arapaho and Roosevelt and White River national forests.

School Board, 700 reach agreement on new school's costs

The Steamboat Springs School Board approved an agreement Monday with Steamboat 700 developers to share the costs of a potential new school. Board members voted, 4-0, to approve the agreement, which stipulates Steamboat 700 developers would pay 47.2 percent of the estimated $30 million cost - in today's dollars - to construct the school and expand Steamboat Springs High School.

Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust to hold easement for Elkhead Ranch parcel

The Routt County Board of Commissioners approved spending $400,000 of taxpayer funds to help place 645 acres of the 3,950-acre Elkhead Ranch under a conservation easement to be held by the Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust. The easement is the third phase of an effort to protect the entire ranch.
