Steamboat briefs: Defensive driving classes coming for SSHS students

— All Steamboat Springs High School juniors and seniors are required to complete the National Safety Council's Alive At 25 defensive driving class if they intend to park a vehicle on campus or apply for open campus privileges during the next school year. Parking permits will be sold to juniors and seniors for $40 after today in Mr. Hensen's office at the high school. Sessions of the nearly five-hour Alive at 25 class are scheduled for today, Thursday and Aug. 25. The cost is $30. Register and see class times on the Web at http://coloradosafedriver.com. New drivers also can take the class to apply for their learner's permit.

Seniors must take a free, two-hour refresher course, scheduled for many August dates. E-mail dhensen@sssd.k12.co.us or call 871-3685 for class times.

Fellowship event Sunday at West Lincoln Park

Concordia Lutheran Church, Holy Name Catholic Church and the Steamboat Christian Center host Fellowship and Fun in the Park, beginning with gospel worship and praise music at 10 a.m. Sunday in West Lincoln Park. A free barbecue lunch is at noon, followed by music and games. Take a lawn chair, friends, a Frisbee or other outdoor toys.

Applications for historic register due by Aug. 31

Applications for designation on the Routt County Register of Historic Properties are due Aug. 31 in the Routt County commissioners' office in the Routt County Courthouse. The Historic Preservation Board will review applications Sept. 9. Call Dee Bolton at 879-0108 for more information.

Library book drop to move from City Market on Sept. 1

The Bud Werner Memorial Library book drop at City Market is moving across Central Park Plaza to Village Inn, as of Sept. 1. Signs will be posted at City Market announcing the change.

American Legion offering transport to VA services

The American Legion Post 44 is providing transportation to VA medical centers in Grand Junction and Denver and to the VA Clinic in Craig.
