Steamboat Springs police performed a round of alcohol compliance checks from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Of the 13 establishments checked, one failed, police Capt. Joel Rae said.

The checks involved two 18-year-old undercover operatives who tried to buy alcohol, he said. West End Liquor failed the check. Rae said the 12 that passed were: Arctic Liquors, Kum N Go at the Curve, 7-Eleven, Southside Liquors, Market on the Mountain, Central Park Liquor, City Market, Safeway, Kum N Go on Anglers Drive, Steamboat Discount Liquor, Cellar Liquors and Pioneer Spirits.

The clerk at West End was cited for selling alcohol to an underage person. The store's liquor license holder will have to appear for a probable cause hearing regarding the status of the store's license, Rae said.

West End Liquor owner John Seymour could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.

Fire burns about 15 acres north of Hayden

A wildfire about five miles north of Hayden on Routt County Road 76 burned about 15 acres between four homes, but it was brought under control before it damaged any structures, Routt County Emergency Management Director Chuck Vale said Monday.

Officials think a prescribed burn that got out of control Sunday was the cause of Monday's fire.

The fire, which burned in oak brush and sagebrush, re-ignited.

"Obviously, there was some hot spots in it, and the wind took it" Monday, Vale said.
